Abstract

The accelerating pace of digital transformation (DT) in Nigerian
tertiary institutions necessitates a critical re-evaluation and
reinvention of traditional assessment methods in Literature
Education. Conventional paper-based examinations and rote
memorisation assignments struggle to accurately measure the critical
thinking, digital literacy, and creative competencies required in the
21st century (Abubakar et al., 2024). This paper argues for an urgent
shift toward innovative evaluation techniques that leverage digital
tools to foster deeper engagement, promote authentic learning
outcomes, and ensure academic integrity. The proposed framework
advocates integrating project-based assessment, e-portfolios, and
digitally mediated critical response exercises to align evaluation with
the realities of the digital age, thereby preserving academic standards
and enhancing the quality of literature graduates in Nigeria.
