Utilization of ICT Facilities for Effective Current Awareness Services in Libraries

Abstract

This study examined Utilization of ICT Facilities for Effective Current Awareness Services in
Libraries. The study was specifically aimed at examining the concept of information and
communication technologies, current awareness services, need for current awareness and
identifying ict facilities relevant for cas services, the study identifies the following ICT facilities
relevant for current awareness in libraries i.e computers, internet, social media platforms, the
study also assess the need acquire ICT handling skills for CAS, the study also examines the
following challenges and problems hindering application of ICTs for current awareness in
libraries: poor power supply, maintenance, lack of ICT skilled human resources, virus crisis
among others. The study concludes that librarians should think of ways to using ICT to make
services more effective and efficient. Therefore, librarians must be ready to embrace the assistance
that the world of ICT is offering them and be prepared to train and upgrade their skills.
