Abstract

Witchcraft has remained a symptom of tradition that continues to exist in contemporary African societies. In some
societies, it is as old as when a man took a sedentary life to settle and get control of his environment. The significance
of Witchcraft was not usually shown in literature. This paper, therefore, examines the place of Witchcraft in African
societies with emphasis on Nupeland. The paper accessed data through written and unwritten sources. The work
discovered that, in Nupeland, Witchcraft plays significant roles in the social, economic and political lives of people.
