Abstract

This paper discusses the rise of terrorist organisations in the Third World Countries. Studies on terrorism
usually pay attention to the internal factors responsible for its emergence, particularly political alienation,
economic deprivation, social marginalization, religious intolerance, and so on. Although, in some
occasions, the factors count, this paper discovered that there are external factors that play significant roles
in the rise of terrorism in third-world countries. Some of these include imperialism/neocolonialism, arms
proliferation, the role of media and propaganda. The paper argued that the term terrorism itself has been
used in different ways, with political connotations, to justify or oppose certain actions and interests.
