Abstract

Indecent dressing has sparked significant debate and reflects broader societal values. Influenced by mass and social
media, indecent dress affects youth fashion trends, particularly among Baptist youths in Ogbomosho. This study used
desk research and secondary data sources. It examines how indecent dress impacts on biblical modesty, social
judgment and church unity. By analyzing academic journals, books, church publications, government reports, and
news articles, the study identifies themes related to economic, psychological, religious, and community factors using
Symbolic Interactionism and Role Theory. Findings indicate that economic factors, media trends, and peer group
pressure heavily influence youths' clothing choices, leading to conflicts with Baptist teachings on modesty. This
discrepancy challenges church decorum and unity. Recommendations include enhancing parental guidance,
reinforcing church teachings on modesty, and regulating media content. Churches are advised to enforce dress codes
and offer counseling. A communal approach, emphasizing collective vigilance, is also suggested to support modesty
and improve youth morality in Baptist churches.
